A large performance shower that has several shower heads or other components usually operates on several zones, with the possibility that each zone uses a different volume of water. Each zone may also need water at different pressures and temperatures (i.e. his and hers showers). The first decision you should make when designing your custom shower system: What components do you want and why? The "why" question may seem obvious, but there can be many answers that can change how your shower system is designed. As an example - do you want water tiles for body massage or to develop a shroud of enveloping water spray?
The second decision for your shower system: Do you want to group any of your zones together or keep them all separate? Grouping zones together lets your shower match the water flow to the need of the particular accessory. For example, shower heads and hand showers both use two-and-a-half gallons of water per minute. Rain shower head and massaging body spray clusters can use up to ten gallons of water per minute. If you control your zones separately you can select the temperature and pressure each zone requires.
