Shower Units ~ the shower base, shower enclosure and shower door
A shower unit consists of the shower base, shower enclosure and shower door. The shower enclosure is the back walls, where the shower door includes all the glass for the front of the shower. Shower units typically come in panels so they can be moved through out your house and installed in place. As a complete unit they provide what you need in a water containing package. With a shower unit - everything is the same color and everything is designed to work together. By ordering the system as a unit you also save on freight as the whole shower unit is shipped together.
Your Shower Base ~ the starting point for your shower unit.
The shower base, quite appropriately, is the starting point when creating your shower. Shower bases are also sometimes called shower pans, shower receptors or shower floors. Once you have chosen the correct size base size for your shower, you can proceed with other details like choosing a shower unit with the selected base size. The complete shower unit includes an enclosure, door and base in an integrated package. Everything is sized and colored to match.

Don't forget the shower fixtures...
To complete the shower unit you add the shower fixtures, which include the shower head and control valve. You can add body sprays and rain shower heads, if desired. In some cases the shower fixtures are also included in the shower unit allowing a quick shower installation.

Shower Units - built to your specifications...
If a shower unit is not available in your needed size, then consider building your desired shower from the various components: shower base, shower enclosure, shower door and shower fixtures.
Consider special features for your shower unit, including off-set drains, shower seats and access ramps to make your shower wheelchair accessible.
Shower Units and Shower Bases Explained
Shower bases come in more than 20 standard sizes as well as several different shapes, making it easy to find one that will fit even the smallest bathroom. This type of floor is usually made of a hard composite material that is very sturdy and long lasting. Base colors coordinate seamlessly with enclosures. When you choose a base, think about the positioning of the entry (or threshold) you would like:
- Barrier-free or no-threshold options provide access to wheelchairs and walkers
- Single-threshold options have the "door opening" on a single side. (Usually the threshold is on the long side of the shower. Reverse-threshold bases have the entry on the short side)
- Double-threshold versions can hold glass on two sides
- Triple threshold bases allow glass on three sided--they are positioned so the shower is more prominently displayed in the room.
- Neo angle bases are designed to place the shower in a corner with entry from the front. They have a "home plate" design, with the threshold entry in the front corner.
Most shower pans that are square, rectangular or "neoangular" (a triangular shape with a rounded side) are situated with center drains. If you need to have a shower for tub replacement or need a shower with a built-in seat, it is important to choose a base with an off-set drain. An off-set drain is located closer to one of the short sides of a rectangular floor, leaving ample space for a walker or chair.
